Lafayette first came to America on a ship called La Victoire, returned to help in the fight for freedom on L’Hermione, and made his final journeys back to France on the Alliance. During her naval career, the Alliance completed twelve unique voyages. Even after the Revolution, she continued making history as a merchant vessel, undertaking one of the era’s longest and most notable voyages.
